Adieu Spectra 2016

The second and third day of LPU’s 3 day annual talent finding cultural fest ‘SPECTRA 2016’ saw 30 competitions in which more than 3000 students of the university showcased their talents. There were various events for competitions in music, dance, theatre, literary, and fine arts categories. Along with thousands of national students, international students also participated in large numbers and the audiences enjoyed performances of international flavour. Particular favorites were the traditional dances from both India and abroad, be it Kuchipudi, Odissi, Bharatanatyam or Yemeni popular dance ‘al-Bara’, Maldivian ‘Bodu beru’, Sri Lankan ‘Kandyan’, Somali ‘Dhaanto’; the ‘Deuda’ dance of Nepal, Sudanese ‘Nuba Moro’, Rwandan ‘Intore’, ‘Jerusarema’ of Zimbabwe, or the Bhutanese ‘Rigsar’.

The performances were evaluated by eminent judges from across India.  The winners of these different competitions will further participate in the national level event ‘Youth-Vibe-2016’ to be held from 18th to 22nd October 2016 at the LPU Campus.

The fun filled fiesta not only enhanced the students’ competitive spirit, it also entertained and rejuvenated them. While the participants competed, the onlookers cheered, and the weather gods smiled benevolently down, there were those in the crowd who did what they enjoy best – eat! There were unique cuisines to be relished at the food stalls raised by different departments of Lovely Professional University.

Coming back to the competitions, the following were held:

Under music category competitions were held for:

  • Classical Vocal,

  • Instrumental (Percussion)

  • Instrumental (Non-Percussion)

  • Virsa: Folk Group Singing, Indian Group Song & Duet Singing– Folk

Under the category of dance, there were:

  • Nritya Natraj: Semi/classical, Just Duet: Classical / Semi Classical, Just Duet: Folk Dance

  • Folkhingam: International Group Dance, Dancing Soul : Folk and Virasat: Folk Group Dance.

Theatre competitions were as follows:

Kal, Aaj Aur Kal – the Skit, Mime, and Nakalchee – Mimicry

Competitions in the literary category were : Quiz Prelim, Creative writing, Lord of the Words – Spell Bee competitions, and The Perspective -Elocution.

In the Fine Arts category were competitions for: Spot Painting, Cartooning, Photography, Rangoli, 3D Rangoli & Doodling, Poster Making, Collage Making, and Installation marked .

Non competitive entertainment programs like Chaupal: The Street Play, the Rock Band show, and Down The street: Street Dance performance proved great favorites with the onlookers.

On the third day and last evening of Spectra students representing each school  gathered together in Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium and waited with baited breath for the results to be announced. They were entertained by various cultural programmes such as bhangra, rajasthani and himachali folk dances while final results were tabulated. When the moment finally arrived, the revelation of which school won prizes in which category took everyone by surprise. Among all the competing schools, Journalism, Business, Computer Applications, and CSE won the most prizes. With the maximum prizes to their credit the CHAMPIONS of Spectra were the SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM, PERFORMING, AND CREATIVE ARTS.

While honouring the winner-students, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “We at LPU are happy to see the amazing talent that LPU students possess. I feel proud while sharing that be it the field of academics, research, placements, entrepreneurship, cultural and volunteer activities; LPU students are seen ahead of all. LPU is the first private university which has won top positions many a times at AIU’s (Association of Indian Universities’) zonal and national competitions. The events like ‘Spectra’ are a first pedestal for you all to next reach greater heights. The only thing needed is participating spirit and passion for the field chosen.” Pro Chancellor, Mrs Rashmi Mittal was also present to felicitate the winners and encourage all the students.
