LPU Department of Foreign Languages is organizing the screening of three popular movies in three European Languages through the European Film Festival on the 25th of March, 2017at the Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium.

French: Les Choristes (09.15 AM – 11.30 AM)
The 2004 French drama film is set in 1948, where a professor of music, Clement Mathieu, becomes the supervisor at a boarding school for the rehabilitation for minors. What he discovers disconcerts him — the current situation is repressive. Through the power of songs, Clement tries to transform the students.
German: Goodbye Lenin! (12.30 PM – 02.30 PM)
Hailed as the Best European Film at the 2003 Berlin Film Festival, Goodbye Lenin is set in East Germany around the time of the collapse of the Berlin Wall. The film provides a fleeting glimpse into one of the major events in modern European history, touching many important political and social issues. East Germany, the year 1989: A young man protests against the regime. His mother watches the police arresting him and suffers a heart attack and falls into a coma. Some months later, the GDR “German Democratic Republic” does not exist anymore and the mother awakes. Since she has to avoid every excitement, the son tries to set up the GDR again for her in their flat.
Spanish: Volver (03:00 PM- 05:00 PM)
Volver meaning “to come back” is a 2006 Spanish film written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar. Headed by actress Penélope Cruz, the film revolves around the story of a working-class woman Raimunda forced to go to great lengths to protect her 14-year-old daughter Paula and her mother Irene who comes back from the dead to tie up the loose ends with her.
