Lovely professional University’s team Digantara’s innovative idea on tracking and analyzing space debris in Low Earth orbits(LEOs) was selected from the short-listed top 40 Best Innovations at India Innovation Growth Programme (IIGP 2.0) University Challenge-2018. In a closely contested round, the team presented their idea to a panel of eminent judges from industry and academia at Innovators Tank challenge at IIT-Bombay.

The India Innovation Growth Programme (IIGP) launched in 2007, is a public-private partnership between Government of India’s Department of Science & Technology (DST), Lockheed Martin Corporation and Tata Trusts for promoting innovations that have strong societal impact and cutting-edge industrial innovations.More than 750 teams from universities all over India participated in the competition.

The four member team was led by Professor Dr. G. Geetha, Dean, Department of Research and Development, Lovely Professional University. The team members include Anirudh Sharma (Btech CSE),Sikindar Vatturi (Btech Mechanical Engineering),Rahul Rawat (Btech CSE),Sai Ganesh (Btech Mechatronics) , all of whom are students of LPU. The team presented a novel space-based system for tracking and analyzing space debris in Low Earth orbits (LEOs) that falls under the category of Space Debris Mitigation and greatly impressed the panel. The team comprising of students from various departments and semesters besides their regular academics worked on the project during the year, at Division of Research and Development in Lovely Professional University. The team has recently applied for a provisional patent on the same idea. They look forward to revolutionize the space industry for debris management with their idea.
