Lovely Professional University (LPU) is hosting the prestigious 7th edition of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 – Software Edition Grand Finale as one of its key nodal centers. The event is organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The two-day grand finale will begin on December 11, 2024, at 51 centers Nationwide including LPU. The event will be virtually inaugurated by Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. SIH is a national initiative offering students a platform to address real-world problems, fostering innovation and a problem-solving mindset.

With over 49,000 student teams (each comprising 6 students and 2 mentors) participating nationwide in SIH 2024. LPU will host 37 teams (222 participants) tackling six critical issues posed by the governments of Punjab and Rajasthan. The event features over 250+ problem statements from 54 ministries, departments, industries, and PSUs underscoring its growing importance. The hackathon addresses 17 critical areas, including Healthcare, Supply Chain & Logistics, Smart Technologies, Heritage & Culture, Sustainability, Education & Skill Development, Water, Agriculture & Food, Emerging Technologies, and Disaster Management. The winning team will receive a ₹1 lakh cash prize for their innovative solutions.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU stated, “This is the fifth consecutive year LPU is selected for hosting the SIH Grand Finale, a prestigious platform empowering India’s brightest minds to develop impactful, youth-driven innovations for the nation’s progress.”

Seven LPU teams have been selected to compete in the National Finale, representing India at the highest level. Each team has been assigned to a different nodal center across the country, including Mysore, Karnataka, and Delhi.  Remarkably, last year, Team Innovvortex from LPU secured the prestigious Smart India Hackathon Trophy in the Hardware Edition.
