Lovely Professional University organized a Self-Defense Training workshop at the campus for all of its female students and staff-members. For this Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, LPU’s School of Professional Enhancement invited Shri Rajendran Nair, an internationally reputed trainer from the Tata Group, as the resource person.  Mr Nair is credited with training 3 lakh Indian women, including female cops of the Mumbai Police and other forces.

The workshop was conducted in different sessions based on different techniques. Strengthening and sharpening the subconscious mind, personal safety drill, legal rights’ awareness, and simulated attacks with appropriate defense moves, were the various aspects covered. More than 20 self-defense techniques, including those needed in attempted rape situations were taught to the trainees. They were shown how to target an aggressor’s vulnerable areas like the eyes, ears, under the ribs, hollow of the throat, face, groin, fingers, sides of the jaws, neck, temples, shin bones etc. The workshop showed trainees how to utilise their palms, fists, fingers, nails, teeth, elbows, and knees as weapons and how a  comb, hair-pins, dupatta, bag, or an umbrella can be handy in self defense.

Addressing the trainees in a cordial, and interesting manner, making light of grave possibilities, Mr. Nair urged them to develop self-esteem by building a high-level of self confidence. He advised students to live a fearless life by asserting complete control over their hearts and minds.
