Nowadays electronic tools are becoming increasingly affordable and powerful, the comic book creation process has been shifted from an analog process to a digital one. Writing and drawing your own Digital Comic Book is a significant endeavor, many indie creators take on the challenge to develop the digital comic book. Web comics and other digital comic formats have taken off in recent years due to improvements in internet speeds and illustration software. If one wants to make a high-quality digital comic book, he needs to pay attention to every step in the comic’s process to publish it eventually. In this context a Short Term Course on Digital Comic Book Art was scheduled by Human Resource Development Center and Department of Fine Arts w.e.f. March 21 to March 26, 2022. The course aimed at developing the understanding and skill of drawing figure and action figure digitally, inking and coloring, designing character and cartoon and designing comic book cover.

The program convener Dr. Sunaina Ahuja, Professor & Dean and Head-HRDC, LPU in her inaugural address emphasized that the digital comic books are easy to carry around a large number of comics as these are either stored on a device or in the cloud, generally cheaper than print comics. If you are not close to a comic book store this is an easy way to access comics. She assured that participants will gain a grounding scene composition, page design and character creation for digital comic books, will leave the course with a finished page strip of comic book art, together with a full set of handouts on all topics discussed. This will provide a firm foundation for application to further illustration courses, self-publishing your own webcomic or developing a portfolio for work in related industries such as video games.

The program was conducted by seasoned Subject Matter Experts Dr. Rohita Sharma, Assistant Professor & HOD-Department of  Fine Arts, LPU  and Mr. George Emmanual, Assistant Professor, Department of   Fine Arts, LPU who deliberated on history of Digital Comic Book Art, giving real look to an object, the power of different perspectives, drawing figure and action figure digitally, designing character and Cartoon, inking and coloring and designing of comic book cover.

In the valedictory address, the program convener Prof. (Dr.) Pavitar Parkash Singh, Dean and HOS- School of Social Sciences & Languages, Lovely Professional University emphasized that the Short Term Courses organized as outreach training programs are envisioned to upskill participants of Lovely Professional University and public at large and this course was successful in meeting the said objectives. He also acknowledged the valuable contribution of the intellectual capital and appreciated the organizing team for organizing a meaningful STC, successful in meeting participants’ expectations.
