Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, Will Chair LPU’s 8th Convocation


Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, will be the Chief Guest at LPU’s 8th Convocation, scheduled for Tuesday, 2nd May, 2017. Shri Pranab Mukherjee will deliver the Convocation Address for the second time in a row, and honour PhDs, gold medalists and toppers of various LPU academic programmes.

About the Chief Guest:

Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the thirteenth President of India, has had an illustrious career of over five decades, in which he rendered exemplary services to the nation in the Government as well as a Parliamentarian. Having obtained a Masters in History and Political Science, and LLB from University of Kolkata, he started his career as a college teacher and journalist, but plunged into the political arena in 1969 on being elected to the Lok Sabha. He was elected to the Lok Sabha twice, to the Rajya Sabha five times, and the Congress Working Committee 23 times. He was leader of the Lok Sabha from 2004-2012. He has unparalleled experience in governance and the rare distinction of having served as Foreign, Defense, Commerce and Finance Minister. The nation holds him in high esteem and has decorated him with the Padam Vibhushan. A powerful orator and scholar, Shri Mukherjee’s intellectual and political prowess, as well as remarkable knowledge of international relations, financial affairs and parliamentary process are widely admired. He is extensively traveled, and has authored several books on the Indian Economy and on Nation Building.
