The Element of Surprise

The feeling of anticipation and curiosity we experience when we receive a wrapped gift is both wonderful and exciting. Our expectations get the best of us, and we let our imaginations take our minds to the possibilities of what we would upon unwrapping it.

What if there is no exterior covering for a gift, and the gift is handed to us, just as it is. It will totally ruin the ‘element of surprise’, and we will not express the same level of excitement and expectations as we would towards a wrapped gift.

Life would be much like the unwrapped gift being handed over to us if we don’t face it head on. If the things we desire in life are being brought to us to our doorsteps then life becomes dull and boring. Everything that we need to experience and live through would be taken away from us just because we prefer the easy way in and around life.

The excitement, the adventure, the thrill, the adrenaline rush, and all the wonderful experiences are lost if we allow life to spoon-feed us everything. The ‘element of surprise’ dies.

Life should be about looking forward to new challenges and new chances. It should be about facing the storm even though we have no idea about what the storm holds. It should be about learning to leap into the wilderness and face the demons that haunt us. It should be about breaking down the walls in our way, and not mending them to keep us away from moving forward.

Life should be such that we are excited and intrigued with the idea of what the ‘element of surprise’ may bring next. And it should be about the unknown horizons that are yet to be explored.
