It’s a ‘do or die’ situation: the Amazon rainforest fire havoc does not need fake prayers anymore; ‘action’ is what it demands. As we all are aware of the heart-wrenching news that our evergreen Amazon has been burning down to ashes from past few weeks. Especially, the last few days have been a total disaster as a good amount of area has turned into an inferno.
According to Brazilian reports, some farmers and ranchers have been accused of being the cause of ‘flame flood’, in order to boost their agribusiness. No doubt, the Amazon has been a victim of ‘man-fires’ for years, but the rate at which it is burning now has even alarmed the environmentalists.
Here are some horrendous repercussions of this greedy act:
- Endangered Wildlife:

Amazon is home to multifarious species of both flora and fauna. A myriad of voiceless creatures has been silenced forever. Burned down alive. We, humans, have downsized our emotional range to that of a teaspoon. Many of us consider anything that is non-vocal as non- living. Can you feel that terror of dying in suffer? Can you feel those flames turning your flesh straight into ash? But who are we to take the life of something that is capable of generating emotions? According to scientists, umpteen species are yet to be discovered in Amazon! With more than 36000 man-fires each year, finding them is beyond the bounds of possibilities.
- Global warming:
Amazon has known the lungs of mother earth for a reason. This evergreen forest checks the level of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. However, to its contrary, burning down of these humungous Amazonian trees have increased the carbon dioxide emissions to an unmanageable rate. The smokes have travelled all the way to Atlantic! Don’t be surprised hearing another catastrophic news glaciers melting down, within a few days. Both Global warming and Amazon are indirectly proportionate to each other. It is high time for us, humans, to take mandatory actions against global warming.
- Tribal Community:
Amazon shelters around 400 tribes. The locals of Amazon, are having a hard time finding a way to survive in this greed-stricken community, who wants profit in their business by any hook or crook. One of the videos of a tribal woman got viral on Instagram. She was crying her heart out, as her house was being burned down right in front of her eyes. Carrying one of her children, she was begging in front of the camera to stop this act of massacre! “The sea of flames has engulfed all my loved ones…“, is what she kept on chanting in her tribal dialect.
When the last glaciers meltdown,
When the last leaf curls up,
When the last tiger roars out,
Then, we would say it’s time to save Earth!
All the sensible homo-sapiens reading this, I urge you to start your contribution to saving Mother Nature. She has become quite old now. And if you can’t contribute to controlling the dirt, we humans are spreading all over; then at least don’t build it up. Because at the end of the day it’s our planet. Fake care for Instagram stories would benefit none!
