Lovely Professional University always has been an apostle for sports. It is distinct as we glance at the number of students who have taken admission to the university through sports and from the number of students who have made their career in sports. Neeraj Chopra, Manpreet Singh and there are so many more who have won our hearts through their interactivity and accomplishments they have in the field. Today we have another such personality who has made us proud by getting selected once again for the coveted competition at the national level.
We have a source of pride for all, as an LPU student and Olympian archer Jyoti has been selected for Para World Championship to be held in Dubai this February. Jyoti has been a super athlete as she is the only woman archer from the country who has participated in two consecutive international championships. We say so as she has been competing for a long time and has participated in the Tokyo Olympics held in 2020 and now, she is all set to participate in the Para World Championship which is scheduled between 19th to 27th February this year.
Jyoti Baliyan is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with a complete fee waiver. Despite being a victim of lifelong polio she took off extraordinary statures in her career. She started archery in 2009 with the aim to become one of the leading para-archers both nationally and internationally. She has also won several medals in various championships. Along with that she alone in the entire nation is considered the country’s biggest medal prospect.
Currently, she is preparing for the competition under the direction of mentor Pawandeep at LPU with the aim to succeed in the competition. She has her sight on grabbing a medal for India in the upcoming women’s compound individual open and compound mixed team open championships at World Archery Para Championship which is scheduled in Dubai. It is only the challenging and uncomfortable times, requiring perseverance and hard work, that makes the unthinkable, conceivable. We wish her all the good luck for her championships and all her future endeavours.
