“Had we been in our teens, we would have loved to join LPU.” – Abhay Deol

Versatile Bollywood actor and producer Abhay Deol, and former Miss Great Britain Preeti Desai (2006-07) visited LPU today. Both of them enthralled LPU students and members of staff with their mesmerizing performances and great messages. Since they were themselves students of Fine Arts and Fashion, this lively pair of versatile talents, was very pleased to interact with students of Journalism & Film Production, and Fine Arts &Fashion Technology. Appreciating the majestic stature and premises of the university, the visiting stars congratulated the students for having enrolled here. Worth adding, Abhay studied Fine Arts from Los Angeles (USA) and Preeti completed her studies in UK. Seeing the LPU campus Abhay Deol said, “Had we been in our teens, we would have loved to join LPU.”

Welcoming the duo to the university campus, LPU Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal said to the students “It is a great opportunity for you that actors of such status have come to our campus to give exposure to you about the film industry. You should learn from their struggles and successes.”

Entering the film industry Abhay got great recognition from films like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Dev D, Raanjhanaa, Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara, whereas Preeti won recognition for her debut film ‘Shor in the City’. Abhay himself is a fan of “cinema that has the ‘real’ element” like ‘Mother India’ as he likes how to play complex characters.  Abhay said that he had four professions in mind, ‘acting, painting, philosophy and journalism’. He chose acting as it was his passion from school days, and not because of his famous uncle-veteran actor Dharmendra and his Deol cousins. He is now set to co-produce a thriller along with Colin Burrow’s UK-based Special Treats Productions. Whereas, in addition to being former Miss Great Britain, Preeti is a British-Indian film actress and an Indian super model. As a British-Indian, she has made history by becoming the first woman of Indian origin to ever win the Miss Great Britain title.
