Anxiety is our response to any stressful situation; it is a feeling of fear, uneasiness and worry it can be unfocused and can be considered as an overreaction to an incident which disturbs the functioning of our body and cause a state of menace.
Anxiety disorders are of various types one of them is Generalized Anxiety Disorder: commonly known as GAD, is far more than normal anxiety that people might face in day to day routine. It causes extreme unfound worry which can disturb ones sleeping pattern and is accompanied by headaches or body-aches. This type of disorder involves worrying excessively about family, work, health or money and sometimes just the thought of going through the day is triggers it.
It is not easy for people with GAD to just loosen up and take their mind of or distract themselves from the cause of anxiety, often they face trouble relaxing or even falling/staying asleep. Some of the symptoms are irritability, out of breath, feeling lightheaded, headaches, sweating, hot flashes, depression, trouble in concentrating, trembling, and muscle tension. They may also have a feeling of presence of lump in their throat.
At mild anxiety level , people with GAD function normally and can get the job done well in time too but in certain situations which might trigger their anxiety they cannot help themselves and might need help from external sources such as medication , cognitive –behavioural therapy.
GAD is often developed over time if one facing depression already. It can develop at any stage from childhood to mid age and it’s twice as common in women as men.
This also is due to upbringing in an abusive environment. This can also be related to social phobia, adjustment disorder, insomnia, separation anxiety, and acute stress disorder.
Especially children with GAD will generally redo a task in order to reach to level of perfection. It can be associated with level of performance at school or elsewhere, because they will expect worse of everything and failing in achieving something will trigger this too.
There are various treatments available but one should first go through a proper diagnostic check up to determine which anxiety disorder you may have.
