LPU faculty from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. S. Ravichandran, Associate Professor in Chemistry, has delivered a talk during the ‘Celebration of Periodic Table’ at S.D. Vidya School, Ambala. The lecture was organized on November 21, 2019, by LPU in association with National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Government of India. The main focus of the presentation was to motivate the school students towards science.
The Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is really helpful to us as its applications are used worldwide for several purposes. We cannot really imagine a world without these chemical elements. The Periodic Table has been one of the most significant achievements in the field of science.
Discovered in 1869 by Dmitri Mendeleev, the current year has marked the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. And thus 2019 has been officially announced by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO as the “International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT 2019)”.
Dmitri Mendeleev’s Periodic Table is being universally recognized by everyone. Today his Periodic Table has secured a permanent place in school’s science textbooks. He had shown how the elements are organized in the Periodic Table. With the discovery of new elements, he gained fame and recognition as a scientist. Now the ‘scientific community’ has started paying attention to his Periodic Table.
In addition, Dr. Ravichandran has also delivered the guest lecture on “Celebration of Periodic Table” at S.M.S. Public School, Ambala; K.V. School, Bathinda; Vivekananda
Public School, Karnal; Government Senior Secondary School, Bilaspur. The faculty has expressed his sincere gratitude to the Lovely Professional University, the HOS (SME) Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh, COS (SME) Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Dr. Ashish Kumar (HOD) and Dr. Ramesh Thakur (Professor and Associate Dean, School of Chemical Engineering & Physical Sciences) for their encouragement and constant support.
