Lovely Professional University (LPU) has partnered with Mission Kartavya, a national-level pro bono initiative led by serving and retired IAS, IPS, IRS, judicial officers, and other distinguished “Karmayogis,” to guide students preparing for civil services and other competitive examinations. The initiative is championed by LPU alumnus and IAS Rank 335 (2022) Pranjall Jain, who has envisioned Kartavya as a platform to transform civil services capacity-building in India by enabling continuous learning and making aspirants future-ready.
The inauguration of Mission Kartavya at LPU was graced by Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, Former Hon’ble Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Sri Lanka Dr. Mohan Peiris (Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN), Mr. Narasimha Komar, IPS (Commissioner of Police, Vadodara City, Gujarat), Mr. Kamal Kishor Yadav, IAS (Administrative Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Govt of Punjab), and Dr. Anju Jain, Professor at University of Delhi. Their presence marked a moment of intellectual inspiration for the young aspirants.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, applauded the launch of noble mission and connected it with LPU’s own vision of nation-building. Dr. Mittal highlighted how LPU has already integrated civil services-oriented curriculum into its Arts and Humanities programs, making them among the most sought after in India. Dr. Mittal urged students not to see civil services as a route to power but as a responsibility of public service. “True worth of a civil servant is not measured in financial terms but in the impact created on society. If you enter with the purpose of serving the nation and its citizens, these services offer unparalleled scope to shape India’s future,” Dr. Mittal stated, emphasizing integrity and service as guiding values.
Representing an international perspective, Former Hon’ble Chief Justice Dr. Mohan Peiris, Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN, spoke of values that sustain governance across borders—integrity, compassion, and courage. “Public service is not about position but about touching lives, lifting burdens, and defending what is just. As guardians of constitutional values, your actions will echo far beyond personal careers,” he urged.
Mr. Kamal Kishor Yadav, IAS, Administrative Secretary, Department of Industries & Commerce, Govt of Punjab, highlighted that civil services is one of the truest forms of public service. “Aspirants must not think of this as a career of authority, but one of responsibility. The pandemic showed us that civil servants are not distant administrators; they are frontline responders whose actions directly determine lives,” he noted.
Dr. Anju Jain, Professor at University of Delhi, called civil services preparation a tapasya that demands discipline, consistency, and selfless orientation. She encouraged aspirants to adopt habits like reading quality newspapers daily, developing a deep understanding of Indian society, and balancing wide knowledge with focused revision.
With Mission Kartavya, LPU students and aspirants now gain direct mentorship from some of the country’s finest minds in governance, law, and public administration, preparing them not just for examinations, but for a life of purposeful service to the nation.
