The School of Fashion Design at Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized Five-Week long online summer training program even during the complete long ‘Lockdown’ period of Corona pandemic. Here, top fashion industry experts of the ranks of MDs, Vice-Presidents, Directors, Designers, and Merchandize & Marketing Managers paved a smooth way for fashion students. Through this program, expertise of the fashion industry including Nouvcao Ménage, New Times, Fusion group, Rashi group, Original 4sure, Burberrys & Safilo, Reebok and more was forwarded to students. LPU students were trained to impact seeking inventors and drivers of disruption so that they may lead fashion innovation to the next level.
In fact, the essential part of students’ learning in the highly skilled and competitive segment of ‘Fashion and Design Industry’ is to be able to garner as much real time learning, besides what they are taught in classrooms and labs, face-to face. So, students were guided about various strategies to choose the best platform for online collaboration; incorporate group projects; build practical experience; schedule regular web meetings and more. Students were encouraged towards strong communication, time-management skills, as well as knowledge of virtual collaborative platforms and more.
LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal Shares: “Our School of Fashion Design develops skilled professionals who are recruit-able much before they graduate and also those who turn out to be successful entrepreneurs. On these lines, many LPU alumni are either placed with top national and international brands.” Mr Mittal also added that the ‘Annual Graduating Day’ of the School is celebrated on a large scale, where top national and international models walk on the ramp. They wear varied ensembles on various themes in different rounds, all prepared by the final year students.
Worth mentioning, LPU fashion students are presently working with top brands including H&M, Tommy Hilfiger, Madame, Spencer & Marks. They are also running successful brands of their own. One of its alumni, Sancharan Sural Jain has illustrious clients from South Indian Film industry. Similarly, providing ultimate learning experience with commitment to innovation, there are also organized educational trips and industry exposure, including visits to Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) Milan, Italy. In addition, students are regularly encouraged to experiment with different materials to create conceptual wear and accessories and are exposed to fashion shows, craft fairs, industry internships and craft documentation. This prepares them to take lead of their own in ‘Fashion Shows’ like ‘Times Fashion Week’.
