LPU organized the ‘3rd National Seminar on Dr. BR Ambedkar and the Media’ on 7 September 2016, to memorialize the ideology of one of our nation’s most inspirational leaders. His Excellency Governor (Himachal Pradesh) Sh. Acharya Dev Vrat graced the event as Chief Guest; Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment (Govt of India) Sh. Vijay Sampla came as Guest of Honour; and Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal presided over the function.
Highlighting the illustrious contributions of Babasaheb, to India and the world, HE Governor Dev Vrat said, “Babasaheb was a great man, because unlike common men, he carved out new roads for people and ensured that tread on those. He used the might of his pen to spread the message of equality and the necessity of working together for the progress of the nation and the preservation of its culture.” He also referred to the lives of Babasaheb, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Abraham Lincoln, and Dhirubhai Ambani to inspire students to utilize their education well and lead others to greatness.Minister Sampla elaborated upon how Dr. Ambedkar served the global society till his last breath. The reason why even countries like the UK and USA hold Babasaheb in high esteem. Mr Atwal highlighted how Babasaheb always laid emphasis on the right to education.
Other distinguished guests were Minister (Punjab Government) S Sohan Singh Thandal, MLA Phagwara Sh. Som Parkash, MLA Adampur Sh. Pawan Kumar Tinu, MLA Kartarpur Sardar Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Lovely Group Chairman Mr. Ramesh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal, and Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal. Chairman, Punjab SC Commission Sh. Rajesh Bagha presented the vote of thanks while the Convener of Punjab Government Committee S Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal conducted the event. LPU Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal welcomed the elite gathering and thanked the HE Governor Dev Vrat for taking the time out to attend the seminar and address LPU students.
The Academic Session was presided over by Prof. B A Chopade, Vice Chancellor, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (Maharashtra). The Session address was made by Sh. Dalip Mundal, eminent thinker. Other Resource Persons attending were Dr. Manmohan Singh (IPS), writer and thinker, and Ms. Munisha Pandey, Editor, India Today. The Valedictory address was made by Sh. Puran Meshram, Registrar, Nagpur University, and the Moderator of the session was Sh. Des Raj Kali, writer and thinker.
