“Through such delegations, youth organisations of both the great nations can work together to channelise young energy towards constructive endeavours.” – Chancellor, LPU

Sangeeta Dhakar, LPU B.Tech ECE student, was part of the 100 strong Indian Youth Delegation to China that recently made a 10 day visit to the country. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (India) organised the visit at the invitation of the All China Youth Federation (ACYF) to strengthen the spirit of ‘the Year of the Friendly Exchanges between India & China’. The youth delegation comprised young Indian students, politicians, sports people, and artists from diverse fields. Sangeeta, from LPU, was selected to be a part of the delegation by the National Service Scheme (NSS).

During her stay in China, Sangeeta met dignitaries of the Chinese Government and had a chance to interact with Chinese youth leaders. The LPU student also got the opportunity to visit prominent places of historic, educational and cultural significance like Beijing, Qufu, Jinan and Shanghai. This exchange of Youth Delegations between India and China has been taking place since 2007. Taken up on a reciprocal basis for promoting exchange of ideas, values and culture amongst the youth, the exchange also aims to develop better mutual international understanding.

A 100-member Chinese Youth Delegation made a similar visit to India in September 2014. Congratulating the promising university student Sangeeta on the honor of being chosen to represent our country at China, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said, “I am happy and proud to see that one more LPU student has registered international presence. To be selected for an international delegation from throughout the country is really heartening for Sangeeta and for our other students as well. I wish her the best and hope she wins many accolades in the future too.” Mr. Mittal went on to add, “India and China have large populations of young people and such a youth force can contribute immensely to growth not only in the region but across the globe. Through such delegations, youth organisations of both the great nations can work together to channelise young energy towards constructive endeavours. I wish such government oriented youth programs could be held more frequently. These programs will indeed bring global vibrancy and greater peace, prosperity and progress.”

Talking about the experience, Sangeeta said, “Coming to LPU from a remote and small village of Madhya Pradesh has really transformed me. Whatever I am today is only due to my university and my inspiring teachers. Only under their guidance I learnt to help society, and this led me to join Republic Day Parade -2014 where I emerged the best female NSS volunteer. Now, this opportunity to visit China, made possible by LPU, has taught me internationalism and patriotism. I have indeed acquired a better understanding of China and the relationship between our countries. I feel very motivated to prepare hard and to join the Indian Air-Force to serve the nation. In fact, I am short of words to praise the environment at LPU which always aims to shape and guide students as per their inclination and abilities.”
