Lovely Professional University (LPU) is hosting 5th edition of 36 hours ‘Grand Finale’ for Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2022 on 25th and 26th August 2022 at its campus. A total of 28 teams of 200 competitors from the nodal area will offer technical solutions to challenging problems in various areas faced day to day by people. They have been assigned to solve problem statements related to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY). The program will be centrally inaugurated by the Ministry of Education at 9am on 25th August.
As part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and All India Council for Technical Education has identified LPU as one of the 75 nodal centres from across the country to host ‘software edition’ of the SIH-2022 competition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the participants nationwide on the first day of the competition. Hon’ble P M has been interacting with the participants every year since its inception, and PM is expected to interact with students this year again.
Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell to provide students a platform to solve the pressing problems of the government, ministries, departments, industries and other organizations. SIH has been acclaimed as the world’s biggest open innovation model and it inculcates the culture of product innovation and problem-solving among students. SIH is conducted every year since 2017 in two formats i.e. SIH Software and SIH Hardware Editions for higher education students. This year Smart India Hackathon – Junior has also been introduced for school students to build a culture of Innovation and problem-solving attitude at the school level.
The scope of this Hackathon has been widening with every passing since its launch in 2017. LPU students have already exhibited their winning potential in its earlier editions. Every year SIH is impacting lakhs of students and provides them a national platform to test their educational learning in real-world problem-solving. It also aligns their interest toward Innovation and entrepreneurship.
Smart India Hackathon has witnessed huge participation from Ministries, departments, PSUs, and private organizations in providing problem statements. SIH 2022 has offered 476 problem statements received from 62 organizations. In all, 2033 winning teams of campus level hackathons, comprising 15000+ students are participating in this year’s grand finale at national level. Students compete amongst one another as a team, offer technical solutions to real-world problems, and also get a chance to win prizes worth up to one lakh.
