LPU’s Woman Footballer Bhagwati Chauhan has been declared North Zone’s best player during the Association of Indian Universities (AIU’s) North Zone Inter-University (women) Football Championship-2021 held at LPU sports ground. Exhibiting the theme of the championship-‘Football Fury’, LPU’s captain Bhagwati Chauhan captured the field in all matches to score maximum goals individually. In the very first match, Bhagwati scored four goals individually depicting the best of tackling, passing, kicking and scoring skills.
Extremely happy on the declaration as to the best player, LPU student Bhagwati, who hails from Uttrakhand, has ensured to lead her team to the top position in national matches.
Overall, the team of Chaudhary Bansi Lal University Bhiwani declared winner with 7 points; Lovely Professional University Runner up with 5 points; and, last time winner Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar remained at third place with 4 points. LPU’s Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal honoured and awarded the teams and individual students with respective trophies and medals. Congratulating and encouraging all the women players, Mrs Mittal encouraged them to continue with their passion for the game and glorious wins thereof.
Worth Mentioning, with 400 participants, 20 top universities of the zone including Punjabi University Patiala, GNDU Amritsar, Kurukshetra University, Avadh University and more had registered for the championship. LPU team has now grabbed the prestigious chance of being among top teams of the country to further play in ‘Khelo India University Games-2021’. In fact, the women footballers at LPU belong to different professional programmes. LPU mentors selected them by finding passion for football residing within them.
On this occasion, Chairman Punjab Football Association Sameer Thapar; Match Commissioners Major Ram and Hardeep Singh also appreciated LPU women footballers for their agility and coordination maintained throughout the matches.
