The new academic year 2016-17 begins at LPU with a three day Freshman Induction programme. The scheduled dates are 25th July to 10th August with a different three day programme for each school.
Under the Induction programme, freshman, or new first year students are introduced to life at the university, the academic procedures as well as all the platforms and opportunities that will be available to them during their time at LPU.
Freshmen Induction answers questions about how the university works; how the classes function; how one may represent the university in sports; how to participate in cultural events, and hundreds of other such queries. It also affords the new students a chance to mingle with their peers, the faculty and administration, and participate in lots of fun activities and competitions like poetry writing, photography and debate to mention a few. Previous inductions have included visits from bollywood celebrities like ShahRukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ranbir Kapoor.
This is also where new students are motivated by top university leadership to begin their academic careers on a high note. Towards this end guest speakers and industry stalwarts are invited to address the Freshmen. This encourages the new students to set the right goals to achieve the placements they desire.
Academic and career orientation is also undertaken under the Induction Programme. Students are introduced to the university, its vision, recognition and various collaborations with a view to facilitating their understanding of what it truly means to be a part of LPU. Students are made aware of the matter, scope and career prospects of their chosen discipline and a brief explanation of the examination system is given.
At the Induction, students also have the chance to learn about the Division of Career Services and how they can make use of the many opportunities available to them to build a strong career. LPU’s incubation program is introduced, so that any future Zuckerbergs know where to go if they need help starting their new businesses. Avenues to further study in India and abroad are also made known to the Freshman.
By the end of the three day program Freshman know all they need to be completely clued into university life. From PLU’s University Management System (UMS), to safety, security and health facilities on the campus as well all relevant information regarding the Division of Student Affairs, the new students are equipped with all the knowledge they need to feel at home and begin successful academic careers at LPU.
