Reading is an activity which can be enjoyed by people of all age groups. Not only for entertainment but reading a book also has its own benefits like it enhances your memory, improves your vocabulary, imparts knowledge and lot more. Here are a few reasons that would make you want to read more books:
- Helps you empathize
Reading is the best way to understand and share others’ feelings. While connecting yourself with the characters and understanding their emotions, you make yourself a part of that book. This also helps in a real-life situation where you can easily connect to people and understand them.
- Improves communication skills
The more you read the more it helps you get command over the language by increasing your vocabulary and knowledge. Avid readers never lack in topics for conversation and also are never short of words. It helps you express your thoughts or ideas more fluently. When compared to those who don’t read frequently, readers have more knowledge and topics to share and discuss.
- Expands your horizon
Reading can boost up your imagination and creativity skills. The right hemisphere of our brain, which is responsible for creativity and artistic side, gets stimulated when we read. You can easily know how different actions lead to different results. You can easily imagine situations which are beyond possibility. It helps you look at things with different angles and perspectives.
- Helps you escape the stress
If you want to run away from stress, try reading a good book. It gives you a sense of calmness by taking you to another dimension through the subconscious mind. As the quote says: “you are what you read”, if you read books like A GOOD YEAR by PETER MAYLE, you will for sure be able to find serenity. Reading also helps ward off depression. It keeps your mind engaged with the story so you won’t be focusing on issues which might lead to depression.
- Helps you upgrade yourself
You might be surprised as well as eager to know how reading might turn you into a better person. Well, the reason is quite simple: reading helps you have a broad perspective of situations, to take better actions, and to understand what is correct and incorrect. Learning about other people’s hardship will make you humble and understanding.
These are a few reasons why you should start reading books if you haven’t yet started. It is never too late to start reading. Here are a few books which I would like to suggest to new readers:
# How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
# To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
# The book thief by Markus Zusak
