The role of EDA tools in VLSI is crucial as it aids in designing electronic circuits with automated tools. It reduces time in designing complex integrated circuits, helps in testing the electronic circuits and decreases production costs. Typically, electronic circuits incorporate a CPU, RAM, ROM, and other peripherals on a single PCBA. However, very large-scale integration (VLSI) technology allows an IC designer to add all of these into one chip. In this context to upgrade the skill of using VLSI Design tools a Short Term Course on VLSI Design Tools was organized by LPU Human Resource Development Center and School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, w.e.f. June 27 – July 02, 2022. The course aimed at building the capacity of the participants in Semiconductor device modelling using TCAD, implementation of various VLSI design techniques using Cadence and, implementation of various testing algorithms using Cadence.
The context was set by Program convener Dr. Sunaina Ahuja, Prof. & Associate Dean and Head, HRDC. She assured that participants would be enriched with knowledge. “The Short Term Course is unique in terms of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment methods” she expressed. The panel consisted of eminent subject matter experts namely Dr. Suman Lata Tripathi, Professor, School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, LPU, Dr. Sobhit Saxena, Professor, School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, LPU ,Dr. Sanjeet Sinha, Associate Professor, School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, LPU, Dr. Abhishek Kumar, Associate Professor, School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, LPU, Dr. Amit Sachdeva, Associate Professor, School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, LPU and Mr. Jyotirmoy Pathak Assistant Professor, School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, LPU .
Each Subject Matter expert expressed views on different segments of VLSI design tools. Dr. Suman Lata Tripathi deliberated on the importance of VLSI Design tools, Semiconductor Device Modelling and Testing of VLSI Circuit followed by hands-on experience. Dr. Sanjeet Sinha emphasized and gave hand on experience on VLSI Design tools and low-power design. Dr Abhishek Kumar elaborated on Low Power Design via giving hands-on practice on the same. Dr. Sobhit Saxena demonstrated testing of VLSI Circuit Part-I, Dr Amit Sachdeva demonstrated testing of VLSI Circuit Part-II. There was a project-based assignment, participants presented their project work at the end of the program. All Subject matter experts including Mr. Jyotirmoy Pathak, Assistant Professor, School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, LPU evaluated the presentation of the projects submitted by participants The participants were kept engaged with poll questions.
Prof. Bhupinder Verma Program Co-convener appreciated the contribution of the resource team. He applauded HRDC coordinating team members Prof. (Dr.) Savita Gupta, HRDC, Dr. Shelej Khera, Professor and Head-CS Domain, School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, LPU and Ms. Sharanjeet kaur, HRDC for organizing a meaningful Short Term Course, successful in meeting participants’ expectations
The course intonated with the closing remarks of Course Coordinator. Dr. Shelej Khera thanked the resource panel, course conveners and the participants and acknowledged the efforts of the Organizing Committee.
