North America’s largest ‘Bhangra’ festival organized at Lovely Professional University

Lovely Professional University hosted North America’s largest ‘Bhangra’ festival at its Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium, today. Popularly known as -“Flower City Bhangra-”, this 7th world-wide edition was organized for the first time in Punjab. Punjab Cabinet Minister for Tourism & Culture Affairs, Ms Anmol Gagan Maan chaired the fest.

Congratulating all at the fest, Hon’ble Minister invoked all to keep Punjab’s cultural inheritance preserved and flourishing in all forms. She thanked all NRIs who are working hard to keep alive the Punjabi spirit in the foreign lands. Remembering her own participation in cultural fests during college days, she advised all to always applaud the performers on the stage. She also shared that as a Minister her prime duty will be to promote the heritage of the state, particularly in its three forms- Language; Dress; and, Culture.  

An AAP MLA from Kharar constituency, Hon’ble Minister is also sharing responsibilities for the departments of “Investment Promotion; Labour; and, Removal of Grievances’ ‘. A perfect youth icon, she is also a popular singer, lyricist, music composer and best known for her Punjabi folk and Bhangra songs.

Upholding Punjab’s lively culture, 9 out of 14 registered high- skilled ‘Bhangra’ teams from the Punjab state’s institutions performed at LPU stage. On this occasion LPU’s Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal was honoured with ‘Life Time Achievement Award” for her contribution to propagate education and cultural heritage.

Director Deepkaran informed that, known as ‘Flower City’ Bhangra after the nickname of Brampton City in Canada, it is to promote cultural values and entertainment through a non-for-profit motive. It is presently the world’s best, biggest and leading Bhangra Competition.
