Some of us are standing at the brink of passing out from the university and getting ready for the next step. It could be joining the industry and beginning our experience in jobs and businesses, or it could be higher education in India or abroad.

Those who are planning to test their skills and knowledge against the rest of the student world in the arena of entrance exams, here are few things to keep in mind:

Know your exam: Many people fill up forms and sit for an exam just for the heck of it. Some because they saw their peers preparing for it, some out of sheer paranoia that they may miss an opportunity and yet others out of confusion about what they really want. The real deal is that you should be aware about the exam that you are going to take and you should go through its brochure or double check it with your mentors. Half baked attempts are a waste of time and effort.

Know your competition: With today’s growing trend of shifting and experimentation with fields, the amount of competition has increased and making the mark has just gotten tougher. So, don’t be surprised if you find people from different backgrounds appearing for an exam with you. This is becoming more of an obvious change and a good one too, as it signifies that we are finally opening up to the idea of multi- dimensions on our CV. Just make sure that you know what you are up against, it won’t just help you pace your prep right, it may also broaden your horizons.

History tells a lot: Many methods may have come and gone, but this one is gonna stay. When it comes to exams, competitive or any other, you need to go through previous years’ question papers. It doesn’t tell you what you may expect in your exam paper, but it does give you an idea of what the examiners want you to know. Also it prepares you, to face the actual paper, so that when you finally sit for the exam, it isn’t all double Dutch to you, or an alien, unnerving experience.

This is all the wisdom I have for you now. More in coming articles.
