On 27th September 2017, Google commemorated its 19th birthday, a celebration of Google’s existence since 1997. Previously known as BackRub, this search engine started its development in 1996 and exploded in the digital market. Started as a research project in Stanford University by Sergey Brin and Larry Page so that they can find files on the Internet, they unknowingly created something that’s worth thousands of billion today.
The term Google was registered on September 15, 1997 and started running its company from September 4, 1998. In Stanford, an unconscious assignment of Sergey Brin to show Larry Page the premises of the campus turned them into partners for a programme they were both excited about. They came together and started working for a common goal – organizing information so that the world can have easy access to it. This ideology is now the mainframe mantra of Google.
The name ‘Google’ also holds an interesting mystery behind its name. This term came from “Googol” which is representation for number 1 followed by hundred zeros. It signified the ever increasing usage of this search engine, pushing it towards the top.
Google developed its first series of creative logos for remarking world occasions and days that are worth acknowledgment. The tale behind this creation is what the fascination is all about. Page and Brin drew a stick cartoon behind the second ‘O’ of Google to tell people that they are not in office. They went to the burning man festival and wanted their users to know about this cultural moment. This is how the first google doodle ever was born.
