For those who grew up in places where we don’t use French in our day-to-day conversations, it’s easy to say the significance of the French language has diminished with the fall of the French empire. But if we have a peek from a broader perspective this is far from reality.

French is the world’s fifth most spoken language and is also spoken on all seven continents, only second to English in numbers. It is also one of the United Nations’ six official languages. Even in our country The Republic of India, French is the most sought-after foreign language after English.

The propensity to speak French fluently apart from English and your mother language is a nice feat in itself. It opens up a whole new world of opportunities in the international job market. France is Europe’s 3rd largest economy and one of the world’s most influential empires, and having mastery over their language comes with a slew of extra benefits. It is also one of the most sought-after destinations for abroad studies, home to the world’s top universities like Université PSL (Paris Sciences & Lettres), Ecole Polytechnique, Sorbonne University, etc.

Lovely Professional University, apprehending the gravity of the language and the potential benefits to its students. Being one of the top-ranked universities in India, LPU has signed an MoU with Alliance Française de Chandigarh to promote French culture and facilitate Vertos with quality French-language education. Director Ophélie Belin of AFC and LPU Registrar Dr Monica Gulati signed the MoU, in the elite presence of Additional Director at Division of International Affairs at LPU Mr Aman Mittal, HoS Social Sciences & Languages Dr PP Singh and Deputy Director Supriya Mathew.

Recognized by the French Embassy in India, the Alliance Française is one of the leading, independently run cultural powerhouses that aims to promote the French language and culture in different parts of the world. It is also important to note that French Embassy in India has already established the prestigious ‘E-space France Centre’ at LPU campus in 2019. Moreover, LPU is India’s first university to host this ‘Centre’ for French studies at its campus.

The Alliance Française is known for its brilliant educators and vast network of foundation centers spread across 135 countries and 5 continents where they facilitate folks with quality education on French language and culture. Noteworthy, LPU is already providing courses in French language, and more than 400 LPU students have availed this opportunity.
