It is not enough to be compassionate. You must act. — Dalai Lama

Everyone is a human. Every single person has compassion in his/her heart but how many of us actually do something about it? There has been a lot of prominent figures who used to see the world as their own family. The social workers are the people who took an initiative and dared to go ahead to serve society and dedicate their life to this ambition. The most important thing in a person’s life is how he/she gives back to society.

Student Organization AIESEC in collaboration with United Nations Youth Community under the aegis of the Division of Student Welfare, Lovely Professional University took the responsibility to share some quality time with the elders who are waiting to see their younger ones. They visited Apahaj Ashram, an old age home on Sunday noon. This was a really great initiative that the organizations took to contribute their part to the world. All the students who registered for this were very enthusiastic and compassionate towards the cause. They were willing to aid the elderly people and brought snacks and fruits for them as a generous gesture.

The members met a lot of elderly people, took their blessings, talked with them through our whole hearts, and entertained them through several activities. The members were overwhelmed by this amazing experience and felt blessed. The elderly people got so emotional that they burst into tears and talked about their experiences of life. They loved the time with all the students and treated them all as their own. The students got to know that Ashram has kept the elderly people with great care. The old age home is providing all kinds of aids to the old people who have been left there by the virtue of circumstances. They treat every person equally. There were some mentally challenged people in the old age home and they were kept with great care. We could see a whole new world at the Ashram and it was an amazing experience.

The students sang some traditional songs with the residents of old age home and made the elderly people sing too. Also, the students entertained the elderly by dancing to melodious folk songs.

The trip helped the members understand the bigger picture and underwent a striking change in their behavior and values. It gave a new perspective and direction to the vertos to grab each and every opportunity and look at things for a greater purpose.
