Sports at Lovely Professional University are thriving every day. The progress of sports is complete because of the setup and facilities the varsity has sorted out for every distinct game. We are privileged with an Olympic-sized pool, badminton courts, cricket, football, and grounds with several add-ons.
It involves Pride for the whole country, especially our LPU family, that one of the woman wrestlers studying at LPU, Pooja Gehlot has recently qualified for the prestigious quadrennial Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, to be held in the UK. Pooja will compete in the freestyle wrestling competition, in the 50kg weight category, of the international competitions. The games are to be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.
Pooja has been an outstanding wrestler with numerous medals, which includes bronze at SR National Wrestling championships 2021, silver medal at Under-23 World Wrestling Championships, and now is all set to bag another. She has been a versatile athlete who, despite having a knee injury, qualified for the Commonwealth games. In the interview, she mentioned that she has been waiting for this moment for many years and now that it has finally come, she is overwhelmed and is all set to compete. She currently aims for the gold in the Birmingham Commonwealth games 2022 and hopes that her persistent effort brings her fulfillment.
Recently, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Anurag Thakur, has also felicitated another sportswoman (boxer) Parveen of LPU for winning the boxing bronze medal at World Championships-2022 held in Turkey.
With vertos preparing constantly, to them attending the international competitions, the dividers of LPU have seen everything. Nothing can be compared to the ecstatic experience one has when a verto makes the nation proud. The athletic drill in the vertos is commendable. Gehlot has already made the nation proud and we hope everything works out for her best for the impending title. The team of Lovely Professional University wishes her the best of best for her upcoming competition.
