The success of students from Lovely Professional University in sports tournaments is quite common now. LPU has a long history of producing some of the country’s most talented athletes, many of whom have gone on to compete at national and international levels, bringing honour to our nation. Taking the same motivation forward, over 10 kabaddi players from LPU are currently playing in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) (Season 9).
Kabaddi is a true Indian indigenous sport, which came to spotlight after the introduction of leagues like PKL. It has now been elevated to the status of a preeminent game, complete with extensive broadcasting, revised game regulations, and substantial prizes. PKL is a Kabaddi league that is played professionally in India. In the cuirrent season, eight clubs are competing in the league, and each one represents a different city of India. The league is credited with making Kabaddi a more prominent sport throughout India especially in the urban areas. It has also contributed to its rise to prominence as one of the most popular sports leagues in the country.
Some of the more notable names among them include Rinku, who was acquired by Gujarat Fortune Giants for the price of INR 40 lakhs; Surinder Singh, acquired by U Mumba for the price of INR 35.5 lakhs; Sagar, acquired by Tamil Thailavas for INR 37 lakhs; Rakesh, acquired by Gujarat Fortune Giants for INR 27.5 lakhs; Parteek and Akash, who were paid for by Daband Delhi K.C. Haryana Steelers have acquired the services of Monu, Meetu, and Jaideep. Anuj Kumar was acquired by the Patna Pirates for a total price of INR 8.78 lakh.
LPU has always encouraged outdoor and indoor games. It not just offers a swimming pool, badminton courts, squash courts, and a shooting range but cricket, football, and basketball grounds too. Students have traditionally performed well by seizing opportunities and thriving on larger stages. They proved that a world-famous career in athletics is possible beyond academics.
