Are You a Fashion Cliche?

As someone who is really passionate about a lot of things constituting “LIFE”, fashion is something that has always resonated and inspired creativity in me. Now you must be thinking “here goes another person who loves clothes”. Well, yes I do believe in looking my best, but fashion in my context represents anything that reflects progress, evolution, or innovation. It could be in terms of anything, from technology to art or lifestyle, as long as it challenges the status quo substantially (not some 1 minute, lime light grabbing sensation). That is FASHION to me.

You may be wondering why the title of this article sounds so disgruntled. Well this write up is a result of a plethora of instances I have encountered – from JIO in everyone’s hands, to startup ideas brewing in every person’s head, including those getting high on life (pun intended) while the CHAINSMOKERS play in loops ;). So yes, when you see every peer of yours, or the world at large, bitten by the same bug, it bugs you some too. Creativity and inspiration fly out of the nearest window and redundancy seeps in, like all those brain farts I have been having lately. LOL.

Okay! Okay! I admit this is a fashion, as in clothes, write up. But it ties up with all the ranting. As we roll into a new season, I’m asking you to break out of the tendency to follow set trends, and embrace something a little different. Something that is more individualistically appealing.

Summer is here – well technically it’s spring, but we know that in north India it disappears faster than you can say “Spring’s here!”. So yes, let’s just knock off our pretentious appreciation for spring and say cheers to SUMMER ;).

I have been keeping tabs on the evolution of fashion for 2017 summer, and all I can say is unless you are a die hard fashion follower, you will be gasping for air as you SIGH your way out of the stores. The new trends are extremely eccentric – metallic shoes, frayed hems, geometric backless loafers etc. The rest are just repeated highlights of what’s been around for the past few years – Joggers, Floral, geometric and printed shirts, military, neutral tones etc with few tweaks here and there, but nothing that looks fresh off the boat.

But I haven’t given up, so as I try and build a write up completely dedicated to summer wear, here is a quick review of two very distinct brands which represent individuality and sophistication, while giving the wearer an opportunity to own the apparel and not be owned by it. Definitely not fashionably obvious!

BHANE

This is a contemporary brand catering to both ladkis and ladkas. Additional appeal for the ladies would lie in the fact that Sonam Kapoor relies on BHANE for most occasions, on days she’s not strutting down red carpets.

The USP of BHANE has to be the gentle fabrics and simple silhouettes which add aesthetic appeal to any body type or face structure. From my personal point of view, BHANE to me represents a very non cliché brand, one that has no labels (literally), thus giving the wearer the freedom to paint their fashion statement canvas, as they please.

Here are two of my favorite picks, which I believe would suit anybody and everybody:

Perfect for smart casuals
Perfect for an eccentric look with ripped or stone washed jeans
Most importantly, perfect for summer
Price range not more than 1500 INR

LACQUER EMBASSY

Ever wanted to own bespoke apparel? If that’s the case then maybe Lacquer Embassy might just be your go to brand. Realistic prices when compared to how pocket unfriendly most bespoke labels are. From shirts to pocket squares, ties and even scarves, they do everything. So your next formal event, you can breathe easy instead of enduring the last minute hustle we all go through.

Here are two of my personal picks:

That’s it for now people, two brands which fit in well with our evolving lifestyle yet stand distinctively apart when it comes to maintaining their own identity. BHANE is a brand that represents being your own person, with their minimalist collection, when the rest of the world is going bonkers with floral and military prints.  On the other hand LACQUER EMBASSY, with its perfect of balance minimalism and eccentricity, brings you the experience of being unique without breaking a sweat.

So if you are looking for a new fashion experience, but need easy transitioning, give BHANE and LACQUER EMBASSY a try.

You have my blessings 😉
