Industry 4.0 describes a new, emerging structure in which manufacturing and logistics are in the form of Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS). Starting from Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Industrial IoT gateways, cyber-physical systems (CPS), cloud computing, artificial intelligence, real-time data monitoring, and analytics to application development, solutions are to be sought for all these digital transformations.

In this context, to get answers to intriguing questions a Short Term Course on Industry 4.0 was organized by LPU Human Resource Development Center and School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, w.e.f. Sept. 14 -18, 2020. The program got an overwhelming response of 100+ participants from academia and Industry. Maestros of Academia and Industry deliberated on varied aspects of Industry 4.0.

The context was set by Program convener Dr. Sunaina Ahuja, Prof. & Associate Dean and Head, HRDC. She assured that participants would be enriched with knowledge. “The Short Term Course is unique in terms of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment methods which are gamified in approach” she expressed. The panel consisted of eminent subject matter experts namely Prof. (Dr.) Chandan Chowdhury, Sr. Associate Dean, Practice Professor (Operations Management and Information Systems) at Indian School of Business, Sh. Ravi Arora Vice President, Innovation (Group Technology & Innovation Office) at Tata Sons, Dr. Purnendu Sinha, Tata Sons, Group Technology & Innovation, Sh. Anup Wadhwa, Co-Architect, IITD-AIA Foundation for Smart Manufacturing, a SAMARTH UDYOG initiative of industry, academia, and Government of India, Prof.(Dr.) D. Buddhi, Executive Dean, Research and Innovation, Lovely Professional University, Prof. Bhupinder Verma, Dean and HOS, School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering and Mr. Promod Sharma, Team Member, Cogniticx, Gurgaon.

Each Subject Matter expert expressed views on different segments of Industry 4.0. Prof. (Dr.) Chandan Chowdhury focused on the Relevance of Industry 4.0: Post-COVID-19. Sh. Ravi Arora talked about Industry 4.0 – The road ahead. Prof. Bhupinder Verma introduced the participants to Smart Sensors and Sensor Intelligence. Sh. Anup Wadhwa gave an overview of Smart Manufacturing. Dr. Purnendu Sinha discussed Machine Learning in Manufacturing. Prof.(Dr.) D. Buddhi deliberated on Cloud Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 and Mr. Promod Sharma emphasized the perspective & trends of Industry 4.0 in various business verticals. The participants were kept engaged with poll questions and allocation of Credely badges based on the active participation.
