Take the bucket list of any average teenager and you’re bound to find the word skydiving. That’s how famous skydiving is these days. Skydiving is a daring sport and it is as daunting as they come. The pure ecstasy that you feel as you’re free falling at a height of 20,000 feet is something that cannot be obtained anywhere else. The mixed emotions that run through your brain moments before you take the big leap is something that cannot be put into words. It is probably the only sport where you can successfully say that you’re at top of the world.
For me, skydiving is kind of like the holy grail of adventure sports. Yes, I know that there are much more daring frolics out there, but still skydiving remains at the top of my bucket list. I’ve had the pleasure of going through several websites to hunt down the top drop zones around the world and shortlist them so that only 5 remains. Given is below is what I believe to be the top 5 places to skydive around the world.
- Interlaken, Switzerland
At number 5 we have Interlaken, a traditional resort town located in the Swiss Alps. Skydiving in the Interlaken’s give you an unprecedented view of the snow capped mountains and breathtaking glaciers. Interlaken is also one of the most affordable skydiving hotspots from around the globe (just a small fun fact to help you save a penny or two). Interlaken is also a famous tourist destination for hang-gliding as well.
- Grand Canyon, USA
The Grand Canyon is probably something that you’ve all heard off. Located in the state of Arizona, the Grand Canyon boasts a length of 277 miles, a width of up to 18 miles and a depth of over a mile. Skydiving in the Grand Canyon is sure to leave you speechless and dumbstruck as you take in all the beauty that the Canyon has to offer.
- Mount Everest, Nepal
Skydiving over Mount Everest, it doesn’t get more daring than that. Dropping out of a small helicopter at 23,000 feet is sure to leave your senses in a jumble. With the Everest in your background, you’re sure to have a once in a lifetime experience. But a small problem arises. It costs over $20,000 and you’ll probably have to wait for 6 months before you even get your name registered on the list. A hefty price for what could be only described as the king of adventures. But, hey, no one said this would be easy, right?
- Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Now this is my favorite. Unlike other drop zones, Dubai is a city jump. Dropping out an airplane over the man made wonder of Palm Jumeirah is sure to leave you star struck. This drop zone is so popular that Skydive Dubai recommends that you make reservations one or two months in advance.
- Waialua, USA
Waialua, a small census-designated place located on the island of O’hau which is basically in Hawaii. This drop zone is one of the most famous hotspots of skydiving and is also considered as the world’s most beautiful drop zone. Skydive Hawaii offers you complete protection as you free fall through the atmosphere soaking in the beauty of the tropical islands around you. This is also one of the safest places to experience skydiving for the first time.
People have a misconception that skydiving is a one-time deal. That once you undergo the trail, you’ll probably never want to repeat it again. But that’s entirely wrong. Ask any skydiver, whether it’s an amateur or a professional, and they will stand testimony to the fact that skydiving is as addictive as they get. So if you ever feel the need to get an adrenaline rush, if you ever feel the need to experience the thrill of life, pop over to one of these places and have an experience that you’ll never forget.
