An artist is established by innovative ideas. Providing a free hand to the visionary virtuoso to manifest their art openly or the interference of Government is required, is a controversial subject unless we look at the brighter and darker sides of both.
Initializing with an undeniable certitude which says that if the artists are restricted with certain boundaries, they will not be able to do justice to their art. They are doing a noble service which gives a positive impact on society by reducing people’s stress and also by providing them with good vibes. All the creators may start portraying their art to the society, provided there are no specific rules which make them undergo many difficulties.
On the contrary, some basic laws are pre-supposed to ensure that the community’s sentiments are not harmed in any way. This is because the artists in today’s world are different from the ones in earlier times. They don’t look forward to the consequences of what they are manifesting to the mortals.
A good case in point is the late movie, Padmavat, the intentions behind the making of it wasn’t bad but ended up leaving the society in controversies and riots among communities.
Misuse of one’s talent can lead them into trouble as it’s being done for commercial gains and also by playing with religious practices. The government has imposed certain laws for the censorship of films that are being portrayed in society.
One of them is the Cinematograph Act, 1952 which comes under the Central Board of Film Certification.
Section 5B of this acts state that “A film shall not be certified for public exhibition if, in the opinion of the authority competent to grant the certificate, the film or any part of it is against the interests of [the sovereignty and integrity of India] the security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency or morality, or involves defamation or contempt of court or is likely to incite the commission of any offence.”
Additionally, talking about the songs that are being produced; lately, the Punjab Women Commission has demanded a Censor Board for songs to be imposed to avoid vulgarity in the lyrics.
Furthermore, the supervision by government galvanises people to adopt a responsible attitude towards society and its emotions. It prevents the genii from gaining an arrogant nature towards their fans and followers. The fear of being analysed by higher authorities, getting their produce banned, won’t allow them to portray any kind of vulgarity to the people.
Some rules for songs are yet to be imposed and some for movies have already been inflicted. Such rules are pre-supposed in society to maintain a level of decency.
