The movie lovers of Lovely Professional University were in for a treat as the Bioscope Global Film Festival began on the campus today. Organised in collaboration with Altiora, an LPU student organization, under DSA, the 5 day festival will screen 22 movies in various regional languages of India.

One of the first shown was a Marathi movie Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush. The story was based on the life of freedom fighter and social reformer Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. The movie is a directorial debut of Om Raut, is produced by Neena Raut, and Subodh Bhave has played the lead.

The plot revolves around Makarand (played by Chinmay Mandlekar), a present day journalist who gets inspired by the methodology and ideas Tilak adopted to earn India its Swaraj. Makarand tries to relate present day India  to colonial India and finds that our country isn’t truly independent even though everyone seems to take the idea of freedom for granted.

At the end of the movie Makarand and his wife start a new campaign to educate the young generation and instill a sense of patriotism in their hearts. When an individual puts his country before himself, it is only then that a country can progress.

The film was well received by the audience as everyone gave it a standing ovation. It was an great watch that I’d personally recommend to every cinema buff.
