Generation Gap

The difference in sentiments, qualities, mentalities and way of life among individuals of various ages is called ‘generation gap’. Because of these distinctions, individuals with a large age difference are often unable to identify with each other. This conflict between progressive eras is not something abnormal. The battle between the old and the young is not new, and has always been the way of life all around the world.

Today’s life is so fast paced that there isn’t enough time for detailed communication or to really understand each other. Elders often find themselves too busy to talk to youngsters and explain things to them. The youngsters rely on their peers for counsel, peers who are as clueless as they are. Today, in the era of globalization, the age gap is the widest it has ever been. The texture of the fabric holding people together has changed out of recognition. Social media and communication devices have taken away from the older generations their very means of making themselves understood to others.

But love, respect and compassion are thankfully still not out of fashion and there is hope still, that with patience and perseverance this gap may be sufficiently bridged.
