The Vertos of Lovely Professional University have consistently received numerous awards in various fields, serving as an endless source of motivation for us all. From excelling in sports to achieving remarkable feats in academics, LPU Vertos continue to pave the way for extraordinary accomplishments every day. LPU ensures that every student has access to a diverse range of opportunities and actively encourages participation in hackathons and other engaging activities. Carrying forward the legacy of achievements, we are thrilled to share yet another exciting news. Aditi, a student of LPU pursuing B.Design in Product & Industrial Design, has won First Prize in MEDHA 2023 for her innovative contribution to Novel Physiotherapy Device Design!

The projected annual demand for medical devices in India has now reached an impressive US$ 10 billion (approximately 80,000 crores). However, a significant portion of the population is unable to afford these devices due to the fact that 75-80% of them are imported from western nations. Consequently, there is an urgent need for doctors and engineers to collaborate and develop medical devices domestically. The primary objective of the Medical Device Hackathon (MEDHA2023) is to provide education and support to individuals interested in advancing the field of medical device development.

The 19th Medical Device Hackathon (MEDHA) consisted of two stages. In May, the first phase took place at various institutes, and Lovely Professional University (LPU) also participated in MEDHA. LPU, in collaboration with the Biomedical Engineering & Technology Innovation Centre (BETIC) at IIT Bombay, hosted MEDHA 2023 on its campus. During the first stage of the hackathon, held on May 6-7, 2023, the brightest minds in the medical technology sector congregated on the LPU campus. During this stage, participants formed multidisciplinary teams, identified medical issues, brainstormed innovative solutions, sketched their ideas, created prototypes, and presented their concepts to a jury panel, all while studying footage of real-life clinical challenges. On June 10, 2023, the second round of final presentations for the winners of the first stage took place at IIT Bombay.

Aditi’s remarkable achievement in winning the First Prize at MEDHA 2023 is a testament to her exceptional talent, unwavering dedication, and creative thinking. Her invention not only impressed the jury, but it also holds the potential to revolutionize the field of physiotherapy. This significant recognition serves as a stepping stone for Aditi as she embarks on her career, opening up exciting opportunities in the design and healthcare sectors. On behalf of LPU, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Aditi and wish her the very best of luck in all her future endeavors.
