How to stop Procrastinating and start getting the work done

“Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.”– Mark Twain

Over these college years, we often come to terms with our natural instinct to procrastinate, no matter how much we yearn to avoid it. Pushing deadlines and avoiding tasks that supposedly can be done sometime else becomes an unconscious hobby. An overflowing to-do list also doesn’t turn on the work mode because wait, putting things off is way easier.

But let’s not beat ourselves up because even the most successful people in this world procrastinate. It is almost impossible for a person to not give into the pleasure of not doing anything when there’s a lot of it to do. This happens in workplaces, home, finances, cold calling or even washing the coffee mug sitting next to you for weeks! It feels like we all need a superpower to enable us to get up and get the work done.

Typically, college students shows higher rate of procrastination than individuals in other phases of life. 1.       Take the First Small Step

Grabbing the momentum to start and finish a job with maximum quality is the hardest part of it all. So, take the first step. Start with the job just for 5 minutes. Stop and take some time. Start again. Repeat this until you get a grip. Soon you’ll not be taking any breaks because you’ll be indulged in your job like a madman.

  1.       Follow the Two Minute Rule

It basically says that if something can be done in two minutes, you shouldn’t be planning it. Instead of putting such tasks in your planner just do them. Right there, right now!

People are different and so are their productive hours. Some people rise as sunshine and some are groggy and cranky in the morning. Recognise those moments when you are at your best and block that time for the most important jobs. The highest peak of your energy will produce the best results, time will become parallel.

  1.       Break it to Make it

A big piece of case is more terrifying than tempting. Start breaking down your big fat goals into chunks and pieces and get them done one by one. You’ll be much more relaxed and focused on that single piece of task instead of panicking about the whole thing.

  1.       Find Motivation to get off the Couch

The biggest problem with procrastination is that it creates a lethargic environment. The person feels comfortable beyond limits and getting started becomes difficult.
