The School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE) at Lovely Professional University organized the 4th International Conference on Intelligent Circuits and Systems – ICICS 2022. The two-day conference brought together leaders in the field of electronics and electrical technology for a comprehensive overview of the rapidly expanding area of research and development.

Keynote speakers at the conference included Prof (Dr) Joshua R Smith, Zeutschel Professor, University of Washington, USA; Prof (Dr) Om P Malik, Professor Emeritus University of Calgary, Canada; and, Dr CS Ozveren, Electrical Power Engineering Consultant at Oz Sustainable Energy Solutions Dundee, Scotland, the U.K.

In all 280 research papers were received, out of which only 107 papers were accepted and presented during the conference. These papers were received from many countries including the USA, Canada, UK, UAE, Malaysia, Uganda and 17 Indian states. During technical session research work presented were in the nature of experimental, simulation and review study.

The ‘Best Paper’ announced at the ICICS 2022 presented ‘a voltage source inverter fed permanent magnet synchronous motor drive’. It is designed for the use of automotive drives. In the present days, when the world is shifting toward electric vehicles, this work will bring a great breakthrough in the ‘Electric Vehicles’ (EVs) market. Prof Dr Amit K Singh of LPU further elaborated that with such a mechanism of constant frequency input the speed of the vehicle remains constant irrespective of the power load. Another highlight of the conference remained discussion on devices working without batteries. If the wireless operated devices come without battery and utilize the power from the radio frequency source, then it will be a revolutionary change in wireless communication.

The aim of the conference was to bring together researchers, scientists, academicians from across the globe to share knowledge on recent advances made in the field of smart and green technologies. The fields taken into consideration included energy, electronics, communication, computers, and the role of sustainable development in technology and healthcare.

Worth mentioning, LPU’s EEE School offers PhD; MTech; and BTech ECE, EEE as well as industry collaborative/ specialized programmes such as B Tech ECE (Medical Informatics) in tie-up with CADENCE, EDGATE and INTEL. Regular minor electives (IOT, robotics & automation, wireless, VLSI and embedded systems), industry certifications, MOOCs, hackathons, educational trips, incubation and NGO projects are an integral part of the curriculum. Through endeavours like international conferences, LPU students get coveted placement opportunities as well.
