The Inaugural session of Short-Term Course on 3D Printing and Design with Multidisciplinary Applications went up to a ceremonial start with the introductory session of Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Deputy General Manager, Redington India Pvt. Ltd. He mentioned the fundamental concepts of 3D printing technology, its application in various fields in the future and discussed some real life case studies related to the subject. Dr. Gurpreet Singh Phull, Professor & Additional Dean, LPU, Dr. Vishal Francis, Assistant Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, LPU and Mr. Piyush Ukey, Co-Founder, Nu Ossa Mediquip. Pvt. Ltd, Nagpur were invited as resource persons for the course.

The course was designed to provide practical know-how in developing guidelines for 3D printing and design using CAD software, designing assembly components for 3D printing, working with open source software to prepare the data for 3D printer, medical applications of 3D printing, Reverse Engineering and 3D printing and selection of materials for 3D printing. Live demonstration on material loading and troubleshooting in 3D printer was done by Mr. Piyush Ukey on 3D printers setup in his company.

The participants came out with creative designs prepared on 3D printing software, a few of which were printed on 3D printers. The response of the Subject Matter Experts to the queries of the participants was appreciated. “The contents of the course were well planned and the topics were well defined and informative. I came to know more about 3D printing processes, how to module 3d model and became familiar with reverse engineering”, said Kamal Chaudhary, a participant of the program.
